The last Sketch-a-thon sketch and a good-bye

Here is my last layout for the Sketch-a-thon at Memorable Seasons, you have until December 30th if you'd like to play along, to link up, click here.

This was my absolute favorite layout that I created with this kit.  First of all I was able to get ahold of the ephemera package which was the perfect touch to create this, all those lovely bits and pieces!  I love this picture I took of the kids Christmas morning before opening the presents; I could have asked for anything at this point as they wanted to get started, lol!  I really wanted to keep this paper intact, but I was finding it hard to ground my picture and also embrace the floating stars.  By placing my photos in the stars (it really worked better with only 4 pics, but hey we had 5 kids then) and using a bold title I was able to create a flow through the whole page that was pleasing.  I made sure to use a few pops of black to make visual triangles.

Here is the sketch I created from my layout,

And this is my final layout for Memorable Seasons.  I have enjoyed my time here as a design team member and the coordinator, but the season has changed and it is time for me to embrace that new season.  I thank you all for your friendship and the opportunity to have served you these past few years.

12/18 Sketch Challenge!

Hi all, Megan here today! Like Susan, I also still appreciate the extensive sketch archives available from Scrapbooks Etc despite the fact that the magazine is no longer published. You have most likely seen a theme this month from me...that almost all my projects are two-pagers. And that's because during the holidays, I take so many photos that I need to place them primarily on two-page spreads or I'd be scrapping Christmas forever! No joke! So with that, I present you with another two page sketch (which, again, I feel could be turned into a single page sketch easily)...

And here is my example using my Basic Grey 25th and Pine Design Team kit. I actually had more photos than the sketch allowed for, so I split some of the photo blocks into smaller photos and also replaced the title block with a photo and moved the title over above the journaling...

The rules:
* Create a new layout for this challenge.
* Load your creation in the gallery and link back to this forum thread by DECEMBER 30th (not the 31st please)!

Another Sketch for you Dedicated Scrappers!

Hi, it's Susan with you today.

You know you are a truly dedicated scrapbooker if you can find the time to make some layouts during the busy holiday season!  So I hope this sketch will jump start some of you die-hards so that you can accomplish yet one more page.  It comes to you from Scrapbooks, etc. http://www.scrapbooksetc.com/.  Boy, I hated to see that lovely magazine go out of print!

And here's my resulting layout, made with Basic Grey's delightful collection "25th and Pine".  You can get it in the Memorable Seasons store here.  It's on sale too.  Great prices, y'all!

See the curved corners on the red cardstock?  I didn't have a corner rounder to cut that specific shape, so I just traced a smooth bottle cap to achieve the look.  Where there's a will, there's a way!

Friday sketch 12/13

This is actually a layout created about the Fireman's parade held each October in our town, but it is the beginning of the season of activities that we always looked forward to.

This paper, from Heidi Swapp's Believe collection, was really busy, but it looked like lines and moving which inspired me to use these pictures.  The pictures I took because of it being dark didn't turn out the greatest so I didn't want to use large pictures, but I did want to include enough pictures to tell the story.  I thought the reindeer and Santa's sleigh made the perfect addition!

Here is the sketch I created for this layout

Hope you will join us, you have until December 30th to link up!

12/11 Sketch!

Hello all! Megan here today. I love Creative Scrappers, so of course I had to pick a sketch from them to use! I went waaaaay back in their archives and found this gem. There is so much versatility with this one. All those squares could be photos (like my example), patterned paper, embellies, you name it!

And here is my example using my Basic Grey 25th and Pine kit! I pulled a sheet of Basic Grey Solids white distressed paper from my stash to use as my base. The only part of it you can see is along the edge. Then I chose to move my title up by the journaling so I could "hang" the fussy-cut ornament from the top of the page while still using it as part of my title. I also didn't want my title to rest on top of the busy ornament-patterned paper. I dressed up the ornament paper with some of the wood veneers and also added red Smooch Glitz to all the red ornaments for some sparkle.

I also wanted to point out that I hid some additional ornament closeup photos behind three of the ones featured on my page. That's why they have a blue mat around them and a gold photo turn.

The Sketch-a-Thon Continues!

Hi, it's Susan, and I'm back again with another sketch challenge for you.  I selected this sketch from the fabulous Page Maps blog http://www.pagemaps.com/nov13pagemaps.htm.  Don't they have some wonderful designs?  I love the simplicity of this one, yet you can add more details if you wish.

And here's what I created, using my December kit "25th and Vine" by Basic Grey.  You can find it here in the Memorable Seasons store.
When I made my layout, I decided to add a lot of glitter to dress it up even more.  I used glittery letters in my title, plus I added lots of Stickles glitter glue to the ornament paper and the sleigh and reindeer.  At Christmas time you can add lots of sparkle and shine with abandon. What fun!

Friday Dec 6th sketch

Here is your Friday sketch from me, Wendy.  If you'd like to join in at Memorable Seasons' Sketch-a-thon, you have until December 30th to link up, here.

Here is the layout I created.  I was inspired by the tilt of the paper - to me it seemed to drive off the page and so the pictures of our little one and his new truck were perfect.  I wanted to further the look of a road by using the black cardstock as the base of my layout.  I chose to hang a few ornaments to fill in the dead space and of course my favorite, wood veneer stars from Studio Calico.  The layout was created with my December kit from Memorable Seasons, Heidi Swapp's "Believe" collection.

Here is the sketch I created from the above layout, have fun!

12/4 Sketch

Hi all, Megan here! Today, I am giving you a two-page sketch from PageMaps. Now, I know some of you are "anti-double-pagers" but what I really love about this sketch is you could choose to do a single page easily using either side of this sketch.

And here's my example using my Basic Grey 25th and Pine DT Kit. I used it for a Project 12 catchup page. After this one, I only have December 2011 and February 2012 to do and I am done with Project 12!!

Documenting November/December- Alissa

I was inspired by this digital template from Scrap Orchard.

I used a quite a variety of old products from my stash.

And then I threw the whole thing in the recycling bin.

Okay, I lied. I rescued the fun bits and gave the photos to my son and then threw it in the recycling bin. I just don't love it and I don't have enough square footage for pages I don't love.

So, I tried a different approach. This time, I used two different sketches.

Inspired By

Hello everyone!
Stephanie here and today I am sharing a bonus challenge that is up over on the forum.
I chose this photo from The Happy Housie to take my inspiration from.

There are lots of fun prints and textures going on here! Here is the layout I created:

I used burlap on my layout (as is on her pillow); woodgrain printed paper and the number "2" is velvet. The chevron paper on my layout is almost an exact match of the fabric on her pillow! I love the "Fall" banner going across the window frame & mimiced that in my layout.

I hope you will get a chance to stop by the forums and play along!!

Dig out that Vellum!

Hi, it's Susan here with this month's Stash Challenge.  How many of you have a supply of vellum that you thought was an outdated product?  Well, no longer!  If you search the latest layouts and cards, you will see plenty of fun and creative uses for this versatile paper.  It is especially nice to emboss, like I did on this layout.

Look how crisp and white my embossed design comes through on the vellum.  I love it!

Vellum is also a fun product to use on cards, and I made this one with a sewn vellum overlay capturing a sprinkling of fall sequins.

Check out Memorable Seasons' Design Team challenges here, and see what creative things you can do with vellum this week!

(Both my projects were made using Echo Park's new collection "Reflections: Fall" - it's a real beauty!)

November Challenge #3 - Technique/Inspiration

Megan here today! This month, we are going the "inspiration" route with color palettes. I love color palettes. They help me visualize colors together that I would never think to combine. Plus, so many of the color palettes found online have a photo to go with them, so you can visualize the color combo in use in real life.

So, for this challenge, I want you to choose a color palette from my Color My World Pinterest board and use it as your inspiration. I have over 70 palettes for you to choose from so it should be pretty easy to find something that strikes your eye. Also, "brownie points" if you use the palette's corresponding photo as a point of inspiration as well. Be sure to show us the color scheme you used with your layout!

Here's the color palette I picked...

And here is my layout using my Teresa Collins Memorabilia DT kit. I focused on the yellow, dark gray and light blue-green in the color palette. I also pulled some inspiration from those awesome chevron sugar cookies by including a few pieces of the gray chevron ribbon I got in my kit as well as a piece of yellow chevron washi tape I pulled out of my stash...

The fine print:
*Create a new layout or 2 cards for this challenge.
*Upload your creation in the gallery and link back to this forum post by Nov 30th.

I've got a Tool Challenge for you! Use your acrylic blocks.

Documenting October/ November

Hello everyone! Happy Halloween!!!
You all may or may not know that I do not do Project Life. I can not find the time to document our everyday & don't want to take on a project that will feel more like a chore to me. So I figure, if I don't enjoy it, I shouldn't start it! However, I have played along with Project 12 in the past & enjoyed that immensely! While I haven't done it in awhile, I hope to get back in the groove. But for this month I documented a day in our life. And that day is Halloween! I chose this 2 page skecth from Page Maps:

And here is my layout:

Whether you do PL or Project 12, or just a day in your life, I hope you have fun creating!!
Be sure to link up to this topic in the forum!

Alter an embellishment!

My challenge today for you is this... alter an embellishment!

Here's my example:

I started with one of the Simple Story pockets, but as you can see in the picture I altered it to have a chalkboard background instead of the plaid.

This allowed me a blank canvas to then add in a bingo card, chipboard paper clip, books, and a ribbon that I had lying around.

So what are you going to alter today?  Please let us know how and what you altered when you post your creation!

October is Winding Down

Hi, this is Susan.  October sure is speeding by!  Halloween is almost upon us and then the holidays will come zooming along.  Here at Memorable Seasons we've had a grand month-long celebration of all things related to card making.  I, for one, have learned a lot and challenged myself to improve my card making skills.  It's been fun - I hope it has been for you, too.

This is our next-to-last card challenge that I'm issuing for you.  Do you love animals?  I sure do!  When I saw this adorable, sly Mr. Fox over at Digital Two for Tuesday, I knew right away I wanted to create a card with this image.
My challenge is a simple one - make a card with an animal on it.  Any animal, it's your choice!

Have fun!
