Documenting October/ November

Hello everyone! Happy Halloween!!!
You all may or may not know that I do not do Project Life. I can not find the time to document our everyday & don't want to take on a project that will feel more like a chore to me. So I figure, if I don't enjoy it, I shouldn't start it! However, I have played along with Project 12 in the past & enjoyed that immensely! While I haven't done it in awhile, I hope to get back in the groove. But for this month I documented a day in our life. And that day is Halloween! I chose this 2 page skecth from Page Maps:

And here is my layout:

Whether you do PL or Project 12, or just a day in your life, I hope you have fun creating!!
Be sure to link up to this topic in the forum!

Alter an embellishment!

My challenge today for you is this... alter an embellishment!

Here's my example:

I started with one of the Simple Story pockets, but as you can see in the picture I altered it to have a chalkboard background instead of the plaid.

This allowed me a blank canvas to then add in a bingo card, chipboard paper clip, books, and a ribbon that I had lying around.

So what are you going to alter today?  Please let us know how and what you altered when you post your creation!

October is Winding Down

Hi, this is Susan.  October sure is speeding by!  Halloween is almost upon us and then the holidays will come zooming along.  Here at Memorable Seasons we've had a grand month-long celebration of all things related to card making.  I, for one, have learned a lot and challenged myself to improve my card making skills.  It's been fun - I hope it has been for you, too.

This is our next-to-last card challenge that I'm issuing for you.  Do you love animals?  I sure do!  When I saw this adorable, sly Mr. Fox over at Digital Two for Tuesday, I knew right away I wanted to create a card with this image.
My challenge is a simple one - make a card with an animal on it.  Any animal, it's your choice!

Have fun!

Mix and Mat Card Challenge- Alissa

It's Card Month here at Memorable Seasons and we have lots of challenges to inspire your cardmaking finesse!

All papers and embellishments are from Persimmon by Basic Grey. I followed a sketch from My Favorite Things. The stamp is from Inkadinkado and colored with Loew-Cornell pencils.

I love to mix up my mat colors. On this card, I mixed orange, light blue and dark blue. Your challenge is to mix up your mat colors for your card!

Coloring with Loew-Cornell pencils.
I started on her skin with this dark peach color. I like to lay down the lightest colors first.

Heavier color in shaded areas, some peach and some light brown.

Added a rosy pink to her cheeks. The brown pencil in the photo is what I used on her skin.

Light blue on her outfit.

A bit of dark blue.

A wee bit of ultramarine.

I continued on with this same process throughout the stamp.

Give it a try with any pencils you have!

Thanks for stopping by!

Cutting Corners Card Challenge- Alissa

It's Card Month here at Memorable Seasons and we have lots of challenges to inspire your cardmaking finesse!

All papers and embellishments are from Persimmon by Basic Grey. My cards often feature hand stamping and coloring, layers, machine stitching, and handmade embellishments. Sometimes... "ain't nobody got time fo' dat." hehe. This card features my favorite ways to cut corners. I kept my beloved layers and mixed up my mat colors. I didn't hand stamp anything and I used a cardstock sticker as my sentiment piece. Instead of machine stitching, I drew definitive borders with a Micron pen. The squirrel is a chipboard piece and it is propped up with foam dots for dimension. Instead of Spellbinders dies, I accented my squirrel with a chipboard circle.

Your challenge is to choose at least one of the following ways to "cut corners": pen instead of stitching,  premade shapes instead of dies, stickers instead of stamping.

This card was sooo easy to make! It still turned out cute enough to give away :)

Thanks for stopping by!

Welcome GDT Louise!

Hi! My name is Louise and I am thrilled to be Memorable Seasons Guest DT this month. For those of you who don’t know me, I live in suburban New Jersey with my husband and 2 sons. If you observed my life, you would assume that my main hobby is taking my sons to soccer practice and games, but I actually have a few hobbies of my own including scrapbooking, card-making, running, piano, and travel. Our family loves to travel and we try to visit at least one exotic country every year. I like to scrapbook about my sons’ sports, our family vacations, and the other events of our year.

Since October is card month here at Memorable Seasons, I thought I would share a bit about card making. Many years ago, my husband and I received a care package of fish from Alaska. With the package was a lovely hand-made card. It was a simple design with a pleated ribbon on the front and it was a joy to hold. That card inspired me to make more cards and to think about the recipient not just looking at the card, but holding it as well.

Unlike scrapbook pages which are put into page protectors, cards are meant to be held. Therefore, I always want to use high quality products and texture on my cards. I try to use high quality cardstock and layer it with nice quality paper to make a heavy card. Then I like to add some type of texture such as ribbon, wood, metal, or flowers. Even simple designs can make wonderful cards if they have heavy-weight or layered paper and texture making them a joy to hold.

This month, I was so happy to work with the Basic Grey Persimmon collection (available in the store). I love working with Basic Grey because they have beautiful patterns on both sides and wonderful quality, perfect for card-making.

Here are a few cards I made with the Persimmon collection:

Thanks so much Louise for joining us!

We are looking for our next GDT for Memorable Seaosons, make sure you read this post if you are interested!

Making Stained Glass Embellishments

Here's a different embellishment technique you might want to try.  I made leaves that imitate the look of stained glass and they were so easy and fun!  For this page I used my October DT kit by Bazzill Basics which can be purchased in the Memorable Seasons store.  Check it out, it's such a pretty collection!

You can use this technique for all kinds of shapes, or even an entire background.  This is a great way to use up some of those small scraps you've been saving, too.

The instructions can be found here on the Memorable Seasons website.

Happy fall, y'all!

October Tool Challenge!

Hi all, Megan here! It's card month if you didn't know that yet! Yep, so we are celebrating cards this month here at Memorable Seasons by providing you with lots of "card-friendly" challenges and examples. So with that, this month's tool challenge is focused on one of my personal favorites to use on cards - my Cuttlebug embosser! So that's your challenge this month - to use your dry embossing machine or dry embossing tools on your project.

And here are a couple cards I created using my Cuttlebug embosser and my Bazzill Autumn Harvest DT kit...

The rules:
  • Create a new layout or card for this challenge.
  • You may create 1 card, 1 layout, or both for each challenge, cards will receive double entries to our prize drawing to celebrate card month.
  • Upload your creation in the gallery and link back to this thread in the forum by October 31st.
