Masking is a technique that many stampers use to create multilayered designs on cards and scrapbook pages. However, there are other masking techniques that can be used on your scrapbook pages. Masks can be compared to stencils only they are actually opposite of stencils. When you lay a mask down on your layout, you are outlining the outside of the mask. Heidi Swapp has a line of masks. Tim Holtz also has a line. I googled Heidi Swapp mask tutorials and got pages and pages of hits. The best one I found was actually on Tim Holtz's blog. See it here.
Another way to use the masking technique is with letter stickers. Have you got letter stickers that are the wrong color or you don't have enough of the right letter in all the same colors? Don't throw them away. Mix them up. Lay them down on your page. Ink over them. Paint over them. Spray glimmer mist over them. Just peel them off. I used that technique on my layout "Sunny Smile." I simply rubbed an orange colorbox ink pad over the letters and peeled them off. My challenge for this week is to use a mask. You can use one that you own. You can make one with your die cut machine or use letter stickers like I did. I can't wait to see what you do.
